We are having Mascarathon withdrawal after our GRAND LONDON FINALE last Friday, crossing the finish line with celeb Lauren Laverne and Caroline Flack! What started out as a slightly outrageous idea turned into lashtastic reality-we ran 500+ miles from Edinburgh to London with a giant they’re real mascara wand!!
We passed the custom-designed mascara ‘baton’ from runner to runner stopping off in these key cities for a party: Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Oxford, and London. And, the best part: We raised over £70,000 for Refuge, for women and children against domestic violence. Well-done to every runner & supporter!! In every city we stopped in, we were privileged and humbled to make new friends and hear very inspiring stories from all of you.
Despite a rainy start in Edinburgh, our celeb ambassador Caroline Flack, decked in her trademark shorts, was brave and dashed through the start line with the Benefit Glam Squad. Every two miles that each runner takes part in is very significant because it marks the two women a week whose lives are lost due to domestic violence.
In every city, the runners were supported by the most vocal and enthusiastic Benefit teams, who had bucketloads of energy mobilizing the troops to drum up donations. This is a photo of our Scottish team helping us to kick-off the festivities.
Back to the run: And they are off! Not only were the runners stylish and glam in perfect make-up, but they also ran with a big smile. Our Benebabes dusted off their trainers, and it looks like the training they’ve done over the past few weeks had paid off. They were enjoying every second of it.
It wasn’t just humans participating in Mascarathon, but our Scottish animal friends who were also in awe! Look out for Harvey, our office, dog later…
A huge thank you goes out to our celeb friends for supporting us. Check out Sheryl and Bianca Gascoigne with our Oxford-based Benebabes. The beautiful Donna Air ran with us in Newcastle and Jorgie Porter took centre-stage with us in Manchester. In Birmingham, Alison Hammond ran with us and charmed every supporter in sight. The stunning Zoe Salmon ran with us in Cardiff, and we celebrated our finale in London with Lauren Laverne and Mascarathon ambassador Caroline Flack. Check out our upcoming blog post with a focus on our celeb runners.
Our head-office crew held a big fundraising event in Chelmsford, the birth place of Benefit UK. The Benebus, a converted ambulance, and hosted a special lucky draw! Thank you to everyone who visited us!
Our London team stretched their creativity muscles by baking a Mascarathon-inspired cake to raise funds for a good cause! Our SDM from the East Coast Natalie Ship held a party to support Refuge in her own home and invited her entire team over for lunch and fun activities throughout the entire day.
We’re pinching ourselves that it’s actually FINISHED. Thank you so much for all your support!! The funds raised enable Refuge to reach out to thousands of women and children who need support, and ultimately the funds raised will save lives. It was such an adventure and we were really touched by all the sstories you’ve shared with us along the way. We could not have done it without you.
The good news is that we’re still collecting donations for Refuge, so please continue to donate by clicking here. You can also text ‘Benefit02’ with your amount (up to £10 when texting) to 70070 e.g. BENE02£4.
