We’re so lucky to have Blonde Ambition as our guest blogger today. She’s revealing her Bestival favourites with Benefit fans!!
My top Besti picks
Stevie Wonder: (hands down!)…I simply cannot wait to see him headlining Sunday night on the Isle Of Wight. It’s such a shame some people have to head home for work on Monday, so will miss him…luckily I’m staying!
My favourite Stevie track is ‘For Once In My Life’.
Friendly Fires: having named my party after one of their songs (Lovesick) myself & all my pals are really excited about seeing these boys again. I’ve seen them so many times on main stages at festivals & then cool intimate gigs, I never tire of the incredible musical crescendos, cow bells and dancing hips of Ed the lead signer!
My favourite song is ‘Lovesick’.
Soulwax: those brothers never fail to put on an awesome show. Such great tunes & always a very cleverly executed set.
My favourite Soulwax song is their version of The Chemical Brothers ‘Hey Boy, Hey Girl’.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs: love a big fat dirty bass line 😉
My favourite is ‘Bournemouth’
Sister Sledge: Every year I go to Bestival with all of my best friends, we are like a little festival family. ‘We Are Family’ is like our theme tune, so will deffo be enjoying some decadent disco with the family to these guys!
Fave; ‘Lost In Music’
Grimes: I still haven’t seen her live yet, so am intrigued to see what her performance is like, if it’s anything like her amazing quirky vocals we’re in for a great set.
Favourite Grimes song is ‘Genesis’.
Earth, Wind & Fire: I grew up to these guys and still slip a cheeky song of theirs in my disco sets…I’m going to be very lucky to see this…
Favourite song is ‘Fantasy’.
The Cuban Brothers: never fail to have everyone in hysterics between acts on the main stage with their crazy antics, their songs & their oh so rude behaviour! Love those cheeky chappies 😉
I love their version of ‘Beggin’.
Psychemagik: I play a few of their tracks & edits out, a firm favourite is Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Everywhere’ which is a staple at our Lovesick parties.
Favourite track has got to be ‘Everywhere’.
Sink The Pink: these parties are wild & flamboyant! I’ll be spinning tunes for them on Friday night alongside some sets from other great names…fun times to be had here!
They play every camp classic under the sun (as do I)…so maybe I’ll go with Whitney’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’.
Blonde Ambition DJ sets at Bestival
* I’m playing in one of the dance tents as part of an all female line-up curated by the Loose Cannons on Friday, Saturday & Sunday afternoons
* Playing a back to back set alongside JoshYou Are for the flamboyant Sink The Pink party late Friday night.
* Saturday night I’ll be playing a set for the Silent Disco with my party ‘Lovesick’ alongside the wonderfully talented Reverend Milo Speedwagon.
* Then I’m doing an early morning breakfast show on Bestival FM with my Lovesick gang…so please do tune in on 87.7FM (or bring us coffee!)
Blonde Ambition Bestival Costumes
Well that would slightly be telling if I let you into my outfit for the main fancy dress on Saturday, but alongside my group of pals we’re going to do something fabulous and ‘wild’ for this year’s theme of ‘Wildlife’! A few ideas are currently being worked on. As per a lot of lycra is being purchased, we normally go as something in a group with each of us putting on our individual twists. Last year we were a fleet of foxes, was such fabulous fun!
I love dressing up 😉
My festival staples are my amazing top hat that I have covered in wild flowers from a headdress I wore when I was maid of honour for my best friend. The flowers are ever so slightly disheveled now, but at least I get to keep wearing them and continue the magic on…
I’m like a magpie, so I’m instantly attracted to anything bright & sparkly…I have an amazing but very short multi-coloured sequin dress that I always pull out and feathers also are always prominent in my outfit. I currently have feathers woven into my hair from a recent Ibiza trip, so I’m planning on a trip to Ridley Road market in Dalston to pick up a few extras to sew on to leotards etc, they have such a wonderful array there.
I never go anywhere without my crocheted hippy poncho that I brought from a friends vintage stall at one of the festivals. I love buying extra bits and bobs once there also, as they are a keep sake from happy memories.
As for make-up, I have certain basics and then as the day goes by I add more and more fabuousness! After playing a set for the Mascarathon I am hooked to the ‘they’re real’ mascara. As they were on sale to raise money for Refuge I picked up a stack of them to give to all of my girlfriends, we all pulled them out in the mornings at Secret Garden Party and I know the same will happen at Bestival!
I love the Dandelion range; I use the box of blush and then lip gloss, ever so slightly addicted to the smell! Fake lashes are always my Bestival staple…so I may pop along to see you lovely ladies of Benefit for a little girlie pampering 😉
I make sure I have enough face wipes & intensive eye make-up remover with me, as well as a constant supply of hand sanitiser and a little bottle of my favourite perfume to hand to keep spruced up & fresh! Well, as fresh as you can be when you don’t really shower for a whole weekend, sleep in a tent and dance your socks off for hours & hours on end…but I wouldn’t change it for the world!!
Not long to go now…see you in the fun fields!
