The Funny Women Awards Charity Final…

with a hint of fabulous from Benefit Cosmetics!

Last night was the long awaited Funny Women Awards Charity Final. We had seen lots of witty ladies exercising their funny bone in the heats up and down the country, so we knew we would be in for a comedy treat and we were definitely not disappointed.

The night kicked off with a tipple (or two) at the VIP reception at London’s Groucho Club where our Benebabes offered make-up touch ups to the glamorous guests. Meanwhile,  down the road  at the Leicester Square Theatre our lovely Lisa Potter-Dixon (Head Make Up & Trend Artist) was back stage prepping and preening the finalists (pictured below) ready for their big night. The 13 finalists were not only up in front of a sold out crowd but also ready to be judged by a very prestigious panel of Comedy connoisseurs including: Shane Allen (Head of Comedy at Channel 4), Jon Grant (Red 24 Management),  Louise Court (Editor for Cosmopolitan), and our very own Mr and Mrs Benefit aka Ian and Gail.  Each act had 5 minutes to shine and win the crowd.  Gaby Best was literally the ‘best’ in our eyes and the very worthy overall winner. Now as a Benefit Brand Ambassador, Gaby will receive a £2000 bursary which will inevitably help to develop her already blossoming career….as well as buy lots of fabulous Benefit make-up, obvs!

Other stand out acts were Sooz Kmepner, winner of the Variety award who’s power ballads and talent on the keys made a unqiue mix of comedy delight and the lovely Niamh Marron from Ireland who was visiting London for the first time!

Lynne Parker, founder and executive producer of Funny Women stated “Last night was an amazing celebration of female comedy talent – what better way to mark our 10th Anniversary Funny Women Awards!  From stand up, musical comedy to sketch and character, all genres were honoured. Our winner, Gabby Best, encapsulated the criteria of ‘best all round entertainment’ with her character, ‘Marijanna’ the Croatian fitness guru, reading the crowd and wowing the judges.  Tough to call between the top four acts but I’m confident we’ll be seeing a lot more of them and all 13 finalists over the next years! Thanks so much to Benefit Cosmetics for supporting us this year – it’s a marriage of like-minded-ness because we both believe that laughter is the best cosmetic, apart from They’re Real mascara of course!”

The night was a fabulous  celebration of the work Funny Women do and raised money for Women’s Aid and their chosen charity at the same time.  Keep checking back to see what Gabby gets up to as the winner and  much more besides…

Laughter is the best cosmetic….so grin and wear it! 🙂 xx
