So it’s about 20 days now till the BIG RACE!!
I’m not going to lie… training has been really hard this year… but what has been even harder is fundraising!! Essentially all I have to do, is put one leg in front of another for 26.2 miles (let’s not forget the .2 people). However asking people to part with money is a whole new ball game.
I have been really overwhelmed with the support of my friends and colleagues and they have been supporting me throughout. Working in cosmetics, I work with a bunch of fashion conscious gals – so what better way to raise money that a charity swap shop. Bring a bag of clothes pay £5 and swap till your heart’s content!
I have also had a massive response for a raffle I’m holding after Easter and have had prizes from our local Starbucks, The Hilton in Cambridge, and the NYBT group who have all been SO generous… will keep you posted! (Plus if you want a ticket let me know) My Training Team have been my hero’s and without them I am not sure I would have raised so much! I set them a challenge and the trainer to raise the most would win a prize. I am inspired and grateful for every penny they have raised for REFUGE and for their support to me, they have had cake sales, auctions, charity brow waxing days… they have been simply amazing! I will let you know which one wins the challenge I set… here is Sam Brooker holding a charity auction where she raised over £160!
I have been training hard but I missed four weeks after being ill… I completed the Addidas Half Marathon on the 3rd of March and was so proud to wear the REFUGE shirt! I had the quickest 10k first half… so I am started to really look forward to the big day.
I run every morning, when it’s dark, raining or snowing and each time I put my trainers on, when all I want to do is get back into bed I think of all of the women and children that don’t have the choice or confidence to go out and run!
I am running for every person touched by domestic violence and while I am closer to my fundraising target I hope everyone will dig deep and support REFUGE.
