My Benejourney: Lauren Hogsden

So beauties, have you ever wondered how all of the different Benebabes managed to get a job working for one of the best  (yes we know we are biased) brands in the world? Well now you are going to find out with the latest series, “My Benejourney!”. To kick things off, we’d like to introduce you to our Assistant Trend and Make-up Artist, Lauren Hogsden! Here we go:

“My obsession with make up and beauty really got going throughout secondary school and I knew then that I wanted to get into it professionally.

I began my studies at  the London College Of Beauty Therapy where I studied to be a beauty therapist qualifying in NVQ Levels 2 and 3 which then gave me the qualifications needed to make me certified therapist.

After leaving college, I knew that retail would be a great way to hone more skills in makeup, whilst also making someone feel good in the process!

Working in retail also enabled me to have access to many different make-up lines, which meant that I learnt about products and the importance of product knowledge. Working in retail and the makeup industry was also a fantastic way to build and grow my beauty kit.

Benefit Cosmetics was a brand that really appealed to me as I felt it reflected my personality – a little quirky, fun and girly.

I first applied online, then had a phone interview. Following the success of this, I was invited to attend an audition, which was half a day with Benefit at one of their stores. The day involved learning about some of Benefit’s key products, doing makeup demos on customers and giving product information to the customer.

Thank-fully I was successful and that’s where my 7 year journey with Benefit Cosmetics begun. One of my very first tasks was to help open the Covent Garden Boutique, which was great fun! It was a brand new store, with a new team and in a great location! I worked my way up though the ranks from a Beauty Assistant, to a Beauty Therapist, then into more managerial roles, offering my skill set to all areas of the Business… I even set up corporate pop-up shops, where benefit would come to your place of work!

Above is a picture of the Covent Garden Boutique – Yes…I’m in the oversize bear suit… Haha. We did some fun.

Saying yes to all opportunities that came my way, Lisa Potter-Dixon (who is the Head Make-up and Trend artist for Benefit Cosmetics) would often request me to help her out at shoots and shows. Gradually Lisa’s work load got greater and she required a full time assistant – I was put forward for an interview. As you can imagine this was a big deal for me and meant the world.

When I found out that I was successful and offered role of Assistant Make-up and Trend artist for Benefit Cosmetics, I actually cried – I really couldn’t believe my luck and it was a truly magical moment.

It’s been a real whirlwind ever since and I’ve been lucky enough to work on some incredible projects such as London Fashion Week, QVC, shoots with Elle, Grazia and meeting iconic make up artists along the way! Below is a shot from London Fashion Week – with world renowned makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury! It’s been a fantastic journey and I’d like to leave you with the wise words… “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I’m possible!”
