Yes, summer is the time we all feel we should be hitting the gym twice as hard as before. While we may love the idea of looking like a running goddess on the treadmill with a makeup free face, we think we can safely say that we’re all guilty of wearing a little makeup to the gym from time to time…especially when we clock a new hottie working those abs in the corner of the room! This week, our Assistant Makeup and Trend Artist, Lauren Hogsden talks us through the best makeup look when hitting the gym. It’s ok, we can keep it our little secret! Over to you Lauren:
“When it comes to gym makeup there are just three simple rules, keep your application light, natural looking and long wearing.
1. Apply an oil free moisturiser
When exercising our skin can become dehydrated, so comfort and nourish the skin with triple performing oil free facial emulsion, helping to capture, maintain and develop water reserves throughout your work out.
2. Prime to avoid slip and shine.
Keeping your look locked down is paramount, as the last thing you want to see is makeup smeared all over your face. POREfessional primer smooths and refines the skin, whilst anchoring your makeup in place for maximum longevity.
3. Oil free foundation
Opt for an oil-free foundation formula. “Why?” I hear you ask. Oil base foundation can trap sweat under your makeup and within the pores and potentially result in a brake out. Hello flawless foundation is a brightening liquid foundation that builds from light to medium coverage for a natural complexion leaving the skin looking luminous & healthy looking.
Top tip: Add a little foundation to your facial moisturiser and you can make your very own tinted moisturiser, keeping your look looking natural and effortless.
4. Brows that won’t budge
Brow styling doesn’t get easier then gimme brow. This long wearing coloured micro fibre gel comes in two shades, light/medium medium/deep. Not only does it help define with colour, but the micro fibres build dimension giving a natural fuller looking brow with a stroke of a wand.
5. Add a pop of colour
Tints are perfect for the gym, staining the skin they have maximum staying power that will not smudge or budge. You can also play with the intensity of the tint colour, the more tint the sexier the flush. You can also apply to the lips!
5. Smudge proof mascara
To make my look a little softer I’ve gone for they’re real brown mascara! It lengthens, curls, volumises lifts and separates. It’s also has a long-wearing formula to help prevent smudging around the eyes. Apply by positioning wand horizontally & wiggle brush from side to side base to tip, to achieve maximum volume, length & lift. Hold wand vertically & stroke upward to curl & separate.
Top tip – When adding your mascara, really focus on the base of your lash line, as this will provide depth, avoid adding coats and coats of mascara to the tips of your lashes, as product that sit on the ends of the lashes, tend to transfer the most. Keep it light!
6.Wash before you reapply
Most importantly make sure you wash you face clean of makeup after your workout, as makeup combine with sweat can contribute to bacteria build up which can lead to congestion on the skin.
