Freya’s Guide On How To Find The Perfect Fit…..

So, we’ve been having a chat with our friends over at Freya underwear and have learnt that over 80% of us are wearing the wrong size bra and we don’t even realise! WHAAAAAAT?

We don’t know about you, but we want to know how to tell if we’re wearing a poorly fitting bra, and definitely want to know the signs of a good fit! Well, here are Freya lingerie’s top bra fitting tips below with Bra expert Suzanne Pentland! Over to you…

Wearing the correct bra size can do a lot more than lifting your bust, when you slip on that perfectly fitting bra you will see a much more flattering silhouette, your waist will be accentuated and boost your confidence!

Suzanne, Freya’s expert bra fitter says:

“Always check the wire sits behind breast tissue.  You can also check this yourself by pressing on the wire, and if you feel soft breast tissue then the cup is too small and the wire will dig in. If you feel bone and not softness, then the wire is behind the breast and the cup size is correct. The bra wire shouldn’t be too far back as it will then catch under arm, which again can be very uncomfortable.”

Suzanne also adds: “Your bra shouldn’t move throughout the day. The band should be firm enough to sit perfectly in place. If it’s too big on band, your bra will move and this causes rubbing on the skin, which can cause irritation.”

When checking if you are wearing the correct size, pull the band at the hook and eye away from the body – there should be an inch of pull, if there is any less, go up a back size, and any more go down a back size.

When tightening straps check you can only pull an inch away from shoulder, any less and the strap will dig into shoulder and cause indentations, any more and they will slip from your shoulder.

Features of a good fitting bra:

  • Underband firmly anchored around the body. Level at the front and back
  • Breast fully contained with the underwire
  • No puckering or overspill in the cup
  • Underwires sit flat against the chest wall
  • Breast well supported giving the best support
  • Comfortable and supportive

Do remember, once you have had a feeling and wear a new size bra, it may feel a little uncomfortable at first while you get used to it but benefits to the way you look and the support you feel will then far outweigh this.

Benefits of wearing the right size bra:

  • Lifted breasts
  • An improved posture
  • Minimised back pain
  • A waist you never knew you had!

Finally, Freya advises, our breast size does fluctuate constantly and many factors such as stress, diet, exercise and our hormones can all have an effect. Go for a bra fitting regularly, at least every 6 months, just to double check that you haven’t changed.
