BOLD IS BEAUTIFUL

10 very real reasons to love Look Good Feel Better

During the month of May we are changing lives one brow at a time with our Bold is Beautiful philanthropy project. You may have caught our last blog about one of the charities we are supporting, called Refuge (check it out here). Well, it doesn’t stop there! Look Good Feel Better is the second charity we are fundraising for. Look Good Feel Better is the only international cancer support charity, providing practical and very effective free services for women and teenagers struggling with the visible side effects of cancer treatment. Together we really are changing lives, but don’t take it from us, here are 10 quotes from REAL women:

1.“The whole experience was outstanding. It’s not just about a bit of make-up, it’s not vanity – it’s about control.  It gives women the strength to fight this horrible disease.”   Fiona, LGFB Beneficiary

2. “I had such a lovely time filled with hope and laughter. The beautiful goodie bag was just overwhelming! I hope the beauty brands realise the effect their donations have.”  Audrey, LGFB Beneficiary

3. “The vulnerability of being a cancer patient is far more extensive than you realise and being able to improve on that vulnerability by being more confident in your appearance has a huge impact.” Professor Hilary Thomas – Clinical Oncologist, Group Medical Director of Care UK & LGFB Beneficiary

4.“Being able to use my skills in such an amazingly positive way is priceless” Suzie, LGFB Beauty Volunteer

5.“I want people to see me as Suzanne, not cancer. I’m not cancer I want to go out into the street and blend in. Make-up is my warpaint, it sets me up for the day and allows me to be Suzanne.” LGFB Beneficiary

6.“Makeup is like a coat of armour, we’re painting it on to be normal, but you’ve got even more of a battle, every day is more of a battle, so that little bit of armour is even more essential and more crucial to your daily activity.” Kreena – LGFB Beneficiary

7.“Before I was diagnosed I didn’t wear a lot of makeup, but my lipstick was my power, my warpaint. If I wanted to cheer myself up, I’d put on a bright red lipstick. Now, post-cancer, eyebrows have become part of my warpaint4life.” Maria – LGFB Beneficiary

8. “I was having such a horrid day before my LGFB workshop, I felt really moody and unconfident but then the wonderful volunteers taught me so many useful skills, I left feeling ‘human’ and so confident.  I also made some great friends, other ladies in a similar situation to me that I have stayed in contact with.” – Jodie

9. “I didn’t want people to know that I had cancer, I wanted them to look at me and treat me like a normal person. My skin changed so much during treatment, I felt like I had aged overnight.  The wonderful volunteers taught me how to look after it and how to cover up my blotchy skin – it makes such a difference and gave me so much confidence.” – Hayley

10. “I just loved my Look Good Feel Better workshop, the atmosphere in the room was so welcoming and the volunteers were so lovely and kind, I felt like I could ask them anything.  It was just perfect afternoon of pampering and gave me the chance to think about something else other than cancer and the horrible treatments.”- Francesca
