Bold is Beautiful is a project to help support and empower women. One of the incredible Charities we support through Bold is Beautiful is Look Good Feel Better, a charity dedicated to improving the self-esteem of people going through any sort of cancer treatment. They hold skincare and make-up workshops to help women and girls regain their self-image and appearance and help to grow their confidence and wellbeing. Victoria Overland, 38 years old from Surrey, shares her story and how Look Good Feel Better has helped.
How did you feel when you were first diagnosed?
I felt very frightened and alone. Even though I had so many people around to support me a cancer diagnosis can be very isolating.
How did you find out about Look Good Feel Better?
Through my local Macmillan cancer support centre
How did you feel before the Look Good Feel Better Workshop?
I felt like I had lost a part of my identity when my physical appearance started to change and I started to lose my eyebrows and eyelashes.
What impact did the Workshop have on you, what was the most valuable thing about it?
It made me feel like me again! The workshop gave me the skills to deal with some of the biggest changes to my appearance during chemo, like losing my eyebrows and eyelashes. This gave me more confidence and when I looked in the mirror I recognised myself again.
Would you recommend the LGFB Workshop to other people going through treatment and why?
Yes definitely – you get to meet some lovely people, have fun and get very spoiled with all the lovely products as well as learning about skincare and makeup – the workshops do what they say on the tin – you look good and feel better afterwards!
