That’s right girls… next week it’s back to work for the full 5 days!
But fear not, Benefit have the perfect answer to avoiding your bank holiday blues… booking a trip for the next one!
The next bank holiday is just around the corner (well, 27 days to be exact) and with spring in the air, what better opportunity to treat yourself to a well deserved mini-break. For some inspiration we list our top 3 destinations for the 3 day break…
Just a 4 hour plane ride away, Venice is the perfect place to soak up some culture for a few days. Our top tip is to stay in a hotel on the Lido de Jesselo, a tiny island just outside Venice whose coast looks out onto the Mediterranean sea and boasts gorgeous peaceful beaches. From here you can jump on the Vaperetto to central Venice and explore one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the world.
Our advice is to ditch the map, Venice has so many windy streets you’ll get lost anyway and half the fun is stumbling upon something you didn’t expect. For a bit of late afternoon relaxation, Bacarro Jazz, just around the corner from the Rialto bridge, does happy hour cocktails from 4 till 7 and we highly recommend a stroll around the Rialto Market, it will make you see Italian food in a whole new light!
A great central point wherever you are in the UK, York is one of Englands most historic cities founded in 71AD. The city has fantastic shopping (especially the Mulberry outlet!) and boasts the famous shambles, a set of windy streets famous for their boutique shops by day and ghost tours by night.
York is also home to Europe’s largest gothic cathedral, York Minster which is beautifully lit up in the evening. Grab afternoon tea at the famous Betty’s, a true Yorkshire institution or get a cake to take out and have a picnic in the stunning library gardens. For evening entertainment, catch a band play at Fibbers on the Stonebow and you might see the next big thing. The tiny venue has hosted Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and Blur before they hit the big time.
More accessible than ever thanks to the Eurostar, Paris is the perfect destination for a mini-break. The Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Trimophe, Notre Dame… the list goes on of spots to visit in this iconic city. Paris is smaller than you’d think and easy to walk around, so for a days trip to see the main sites start at the Arc de Triomphe and make your way down the Champs Elysees. Don’t forget to check out the Avenue Montaigne – this street is lined with all the french fashion houses from Chanel to Dior. Carry on to the Eiffel Tower, the views from the top on a clear day are stunning. Next stop is the Pont de Alexander III bridge, where Big finally told Carrie Bradshaw, ‘You’re the one..’. A short walk along the river will lead you to the Place de la Concorde, then the Louvre and finally to Notre Dame. Other spots to check out are the intricate design of the Pompidou Centre, the amazing food hall at Galleries Lafayette and the Sacre Coeur.
The best time to visit this basilica is as the sun is going down, because as beautiful as the Sacre Coeur is, the real activity is outside on the steps. Take a bottle of wine, and a picnic blanket and watch the sun go down over Paris. The city’s best buskers always come out to serenade the tourists and they’re famous for starting a good old sing along.
