New Year’s Eve Makeup Look
The thought of New Year’s Eve can be a daunting one. You’ve been watching Christmas films in your PJs and eating turkey leftovers for the last five days, only moving to get the occasional mince pie snack. You don’t even know what day of the week it is, the last thing you want to be doing is planning a New Year’s Eve outing as well as trying to decide what to wear or how to do your makeup.
Enter Laurretta, Benefit’s Trend Team Makeup Artist, to save the day! Wipe the cranberry sauce from round your mouth and read on to hear Laurretta’s top tips on how to create an easy but dramatic New Year’s Eve makeup look that anyone can master!
Step 1: Base
It’s so important to lay down a good base when creating a makeup look for an occasion like New Year’s Eve! Using the POREfessional Pearl Primer will keep your foundation locked in all night long, no matter how much dancing you do! The iridescent quality of the primer will help to refresh your complexion after all those festive late nights and mulled wines, while also keeping oil at bay and refining pores and fine lines.
Next using a brush or damp sponge, apply the Hello Happy Flawless Brightening foundation all over your face and blend down your neck. This foundation is great as it’s a medium buildable coverage, so feel free to add more to areas you think need more coverage.
Then conceal any under eye darkness, pigmentation, blemishes, or bad life choices with Boi-ing Cakeless concealer. Use a damp sponge or your fingers to blend it into the foundation. Top tip: you don’t need much, a little goes a long way! To finish off your base, take the Dr Feel Good powder and apply all over for a velvety, healthy finish.
Step 2: Eyes
Time for the eyes! Take our amazing Flamingo inspired palette, Party Like A Flockstar, and start working on the eyes. It’s totally up to you how smoky you go with this look. That’s the great thing about this palette, it’s so versatile you really can go in any direction. It’s also super handy as it includes cheek colour, bronzer shades AND lip shades. Perfect for travelling!
Once you’ve finished with your eyeshadow, add a little BADgal BANG! 24-Hour eye pencil in brown to the lower lash line and smoke out using the attached smudger tool. Using brown instead of black helps to open up your eye and not make it look as harsh.
Then take Roller Liner in black and line your upper lash line, flicking out at the outer corner to create a dramatic cat eye look. Again, it’s up to you how thick or bold you go with the liner. Do whatever you’re comfortable with!
To finish the eyes, apply lashings of BADgal BANG! mascara in black for long, thick, dramatic lashes. Or, if you’re feeling really daring, use BADgal BANG! in blue instead. The bright blue will contrast with the whites of your eyes making you look more awake and healthier. It also complements all eye colours!
Step 3: Brows
Arguably the most important element of any makeup look (although we might be slightly biased) are brows. They frame your face and help balance your features so it’s important to get them right. We recommend using the new Brow Styler if you’re unsure about what ‘brow look’ to go for. This multi-tasking wax pencil and powder allows you to create 3 looks with just one product! The waterproof, 18-hour wear wax-pencil sculpts and shapes brows for a clean and shaped look. The loose filling powder builds easily for soft and full brows. Wear them together for maximum effect.
To make sure your brows stay in place all night long, apply a little of our 24-Hour Brow Setter over the top. If you already have full brows then this product is great to use on its own to give you a shaped, ‘contoured’ brow look.
Step 4: Complexion
Now it’s time to put some colour back into those cheeks! Start with our best-selling Hoola bronzer and apply it to your jaw line, hollows of your cheeks, temples and down your neck. Next take our amazing gold pearl Cookie highlighter and sweep it onto the tops of your cheekbones, under your brow bone, the inner corner of your eyes and down the bridge of your nose. For a pop of colour add the golden pink GALifornia blusher to the apples of your cheeks. Top tip: smiling when applying blusher helps to give the face a more lifted appearance.
Step 5: Lips
Last but not least we have lips. Apply any shade of our luscious Punch Pop liquid lip colour. Feeling bold? Use Watermelon. Want to let your eyes do the talking? Use Sugar Cookie. The great thing about Punch Pop is that it contains Vitamin E to help soften your lips and isn’t sticky in texture.
There we have it Bene-babes! A fool-proof guide on how to achieve a classic but dramatic New Year’s Eve makeup look. Have a great night and we’ll see you fresh faced in 2020!
